ISLAMABAD: Exports of textile goods in the first half of this fiscal year (2021-22) increased by 26.05% compared to the same period last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
According to the latest data from PBS, textile exports in July-December (2021-22) were valued at $9,381.3 million, while exports in July-December (2020-21) were valued at $7,442,415,000, an increase of 26.05% .
Textile commodities that contributed to the trade growth included cotton yarn, and cotton yarn exports increased by 52.33% from US$400.733 million last year to US$610.427 million this year.
Likewise, exports of raw cotton increased by 197.30%, from $593,000 to $1,763,000, cotton cloth increased by 21.35%, from $935,009,000 to $1,134,645,000, and cotton (carded or combed) increased by 100% from zero exports last year to $1,134,645,000. $1.605 million, yarn (except cotton yarn) increased by 110.07%, from $13.462 million to $28.279 million; knitwear exports increased by 35.21%, from $1,849.596 million to $2,500.761 million.
In addition, the export of bedding increased from $1,394.182 million to $1,659.646 million, an increase of 19.04%, the export of towels increased by 17.54%, from $445.697 million to $523.686 million, and the export of ready-to-wear clothing increased by 22.93%, from $1,490.157 million to $1,831.856 million , art, silk and synthetic textiles increased from $167.5 million to $224.847 million, an increase of 34.24%, cosmetics (excluding bedding and towels) increased from $379.187 million to $422.254 million, an increase of 11.36%, while all other textile materials Exports rose 26.59% from $303.822 million to $384.601 million.
The only textile commodities that experienced negative trade growth were tents, canvas and tarpaulins, with exports falling by 9.18% from $62.477 million to $56.742 million.
At the same time, textile exports in December 2021 increased by 15.89% year-on-year.
Exports in December 2021 were $1,623,578,000, compared to $1,400,997,000 in December 2020.
Compared with the export value of US$1,735.93 million in November 2021, the country’s textile exports in December 2021 decreased by 6.47% month-on-month.
It is worth mentioning that in the first five months of this fiscal year, the country’s total merchandise exports surged by 24.91 compared to the same period last year.
Exports from July to December (2021-22) were worth $15.127 billion, while exports from July to December (2020-21) were worth $12.110 billion.
On the other hand, the country’s imports also surged by 66.23 percent, from $24.454 billion last year to $40.649 billion this fiscal year, PBS data added.
