Sindh opposition parties stage symbolic sit-in against local govt law


Karachi: Opposition parties in Sindh, including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), held a symbolic sit-in on Saturday to protest local government laws.

Opposition parties staged a joint protest against the local body law in Karachi.

Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Abdul Haleem Sheikh, Khurram Sher Zaman, Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, Khawaja Izhar, MQM Pakistan Senior Deputy Convener Amir Khan and others addressed the participants of the protest.

MQM leader Aamir Khan has announced to start sit-in at Shahra-e-Faisal metro against the local body law.

He said all parties in the opposition coalition including PTI, PML-F will also sit with MQM-Pakistan against the local body law and we will not go back until the Sindh government repeals the controversial law.

MQM warns Sindh government

MQM’s Khawaja Izhar said at the protest that if the local body law is so good, then the Chief Minister of Sindh should invite us to visit Sehwan.

If we raise our voices against the oppressors, the provincial capital accuses MQM of engaging in linguistic politics, he said, adding that the PPP is the oppressors and their oppression is now coming to an end.

Izar further said that a salaryman from the Sindh provincial government once said that the opposition party could not bring even 1,500 people, and he should come to see that we brought more than 15,000 people.
