ISLAMABAD: Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday has summoned a key meeting of Inter-Provincial Education Ministers on January 13.

Participants will review the situation at educational institutions amid rising coronavirus cases in the country, sources said.

Members are expected to make important decisions during the meeting.

Pakistan, on the other hand, reported 13 deaths from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, as the number of positive cases surged to 1,309,248. The national death toll has jumped to 28,987.

According to the latest data from the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), 2,074 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths, followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Till now 13,083 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 7,691 in Sindh 5,945 in KP, 967 in Islamabad, 748 in Azad Kashmir, 367 in Balochistan, and 186 in GB.

Furthermore, 490,010 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 448,924 in Punjab 181,842 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 109,660 in Islamabad, 34,715 in Azad Kashmir 33,664 in Balochistan and 10,433 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan has so far conducted 23,935,232 coronavirus tests and 44,120 in the last 24 hours. 1,259,699 patients have recovered in the country whereas 617 patients are in critical condition.

The COVID-19 positivity ratio was recorded at 4.7 percent.

So far, 100,410,291 people have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, including 331,511 in the past 24 hours. 75,225,220 citizens were fully vaccinated, while 496,717 received their second dose within the past 24 hours.

In the past 24 hours, there have been 163,648,656 total doses administered, of which 826,996 were administered.
