PTA decides to unban TikTok

LAHORE: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has decided lift ban from TikTok after assurances from the management from the app.

PTA, in a tweet, said that TikTok is being unlocked after assurance from management that they will block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality. TikTok will moderate the account in accordance with local laws, it added.

TikTok was blocked on October 9th for failing to filter out “immoral” content.

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) issued a formal press release to notify the decision and stated that in view of the large number of complaints from different sectors of society regarding unethical/indecent content on the video sharing application TikTok, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority ( PTA) has issued instructions on blocking applications.

It further stated that although a final notice was issued for the application and considerable time was given to respond to and comply with the Administration’s instructions on developing an effective mechanism for proactively managing illegal online content, the application has not fully complied with the instructions. Therefore, Instructions were issued to block the TikTok application in the country.
