ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Senator Sherry Rehman said Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI) is retaliating against critics in the name of fake news, which is what the PPP is asking the government to withdraw from preventing electronic Crime (PECA) Act.
Sherry Rehman, who is also PPP’s vice-president, said when she took over her Twitter account that the PECA law was a weapon that could be used against critics in the name of fake news, and all opposition parties expressed concern .
The PPP leader further said that if this law was made to handle the fake news issue, it would have also been presented in the Parliament. We cannot allow the government to take away the right of freedom of speech from the masses. The government must withdraw the PECA ordinance, she added.
