PM announces reduction in petrol, electricity prices

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan announced slashing gasoline and electricity prices in a speech to the nation.

The Prime Minister said petrol prices will be cut by Rs 10 per litre, while electricity prices will be cut by Rs 5 per unit.

He also announced that those prices would not be revised until the next federal budget and that the impact of the global gasoline rise would not be passed on to consumers for the next four months.

The Prime Minister has also announced a monthly internship worth Rs 30,000 to all unemployed graduates. He said 26,000 scholarships worth Rs 38,000 crore will be offered to students.

The Prime Minister said all IT companies and freelancers will be entitled to zero tax. He also announced the abolition of capital gains tax on IT startups.

Talking about the government’s Sehat Sahulat scheme, Imran Khan said that the whole family in Punjab will get a health card by the end of next month. The limit for the Ehsas cash scheme has been increased from Rs 12,000 to Rs 14,000, he said.

The prime minister said the interest-free loan will be provided under the Kamyab Pakistan scheme. Farmers will also be entitled to loans under the scheme, he said. He said Rs 40,700 crore has been allocated for this.

Industrial investment will not be asked any questions, he said. ‘We aim to revive sick units through tax incentives and joint ventures will have a five-year tax holiday to attract overseas investment,’ he said.
