Jerusalem: Israeli police and medical staff said on Sunday that one person was killed and three were injured in a shooting in the Old City of Jerusalem. The attacker was also killed.
Medical sources said that the injured included two civilians and two policemen and were rushed to the hospital. Among them, a 30-year-old man died from his injuries.
The police said in a statement: “A terrorist armed with a Caro weapon (submachine gun) shot in the old city,” the police said in a statement, adding that the attacker had been “neutralized”, confirming They have been shot dead.
The Old City is located to the east of Jerusalem annexed by Israel, and the Palestinians claim it is the capital of their future country.
Attacks against Israeli security forces are common in the Old City.
On Wednesday, Israeli security forces killed a young assailant who stabbed and wounded two police officers in the old city.
In late September, a woman tried to stabbing a police officer on the street leading to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and was shot.
Israel occupied East Jerusalem in the Six-Day War in 1967 and later annexed it, a move that was not recognized by most of the international community.
