Media reports quoted the rapper’s spokesperson as saying that the cousins of Offset and Cardi B were allegedly attacked by Trump supporters before being detained by Beverly Hills police.
“Artist and Philanthropist Offset was detained by the Police following an attack by aggressive Trump supporters,” a media outlet spokesperson for Offset was reported to have said.
“He was released shortly thereafter. Offset thanks his fans for their support and wishes everyone peace and safety during these trying times. He encourages everyone to get out and vote because nothing changes if nothing changes”, added the spokesperson.
During a weekly pro-Trump demonstration, Beverly Hills police briefly detained Offset on Saturday, while Cardi B’s cousin Marcelo Almanzar was arrested on charges of hiding weapons.
Since then, videos that have become popular on social media show that Offset and the police are surrounded by supporters of President Trump, some of them holding flags.
The three-time Grammy Award-nominated rapper broadcasted a part of his interaction with law enforcement on Instagram after being detained.
Law enforcement officers asked Offset to open the door and get out of the vehicle. He refused, claiming that the officer could not open his door. Then, the second officer opened the door, and the third officer grabbed Offset with his wrist and dragged him out of the car, and the stream ended. Towards the end of the video, Offset said he would sue the police station.
According to police, Offset was not arrested, adding that the cops arrested the passenger in the car, 20-year-old Marcelo Almanzar, on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a loaded firearm in public.
According to reports, Cardi B’s cousin was still in police custody after a clash with Trump fans; Offset broadcasted the entire incident to Instagram.
In the video, Offset said he was worried that the police were holding a gun and refused to remove his hand from the steering wheel. Then he said that someone hit his car with a flag.
A police officer said that Marcelo Almanzar was arrested on suspicion of possession of hidden weapons.
Other videos showed Cardi B near the scene as well. Cardi, also took to her Instagram handle to share how afraid she was while passing by cars in a rally supporting the president.
According to TMZ, Almánzar is the cousin of Offset’s wife Cardi B. The legal name of Cardi B is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar.
