ISLAMABAD: Revenue of the National Highways Authority (NHA) has increased by Rs 1,030 crore during the current government’s three years in power, the Senate learned on Tuesday.

Communications Minister Murad Saeed told the House that revenue had increased due to the elimination of corruption and the digitisation of different processes.

The minister said that we have built 2,032 kilometers of road infrastructure and work is underway on 2,067 kilometers. He said it was not just road infrastructure built by the previous government of PML-N. Our road construction costs are also significantly lower than those implemented by the PML-N government, he said.

Murad Saeed said the government will not only complete its mandated five year term but also strengthen the economy.

Earlier, reacting on the opposition’s walk out, Leader of the House Shahzad Wasim regretted that politics of Opposition Parties is not based on public welfare but vested interests. He said the amount plundered by the corrupt elements will be recovered. The Leader of the House said Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf and its allies stand together and they have full confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Taking the floor, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said the relationship between China and Pakistan will further strengthen. He said this relationship is higher than the Himaliyas and deeper than the seas.

He described Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Beijing as a very successful one and lamented the narrative the opposition parties were trying to build during the visit. He said the prime minister would visit Russia and some other countries soon. Pakistan is an emerging power, he said.
