ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said that the national economy is moving in the right direction due to prudent policies of the government.
Addressing a discussion on “current state of Pakistan’s economy” in Karachi on Friday, he said revival of the IMF programme was top most priority of the government after taking reins of power.
He said the scope of the tax net was expanding and business class was being included in the tax net. He said the government had adopted a prudent policy to keep the country from defaulting.
Mifta Ismail said flash floods had caused massive damage in the country. He said Rs 2,800 crore was disbursed in a transparent manner through the Benazir Income Support Scheme to provide relief to those affected.
He said Rs 25,000 will initially be transferred to affected households to meet their ration needs.
The finance minister said those affected by the floods will not be alone during this testing period and they will be compensated by using all available resources and even use PSDP funds for their recovery.
