Murtaza Javed challenges Dupty Speaker’s move in IHC

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Murtaza Javed Abbasi on Thursday filed petition against Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri) postponed the move to convene the National Assembly session at the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

According to the details, Deputy Speaker Kasim Suri, Parliamentary Affairs Secretary and Parliamentary Secretary are parties to the petition. The petition argues that the April 13 order adjourning the National Assembly until April 22 is unconstitutional.

The petition asks the court to direct the deputy speaker to convene an election meeting of the speaker assembly immediately, adding that the parliamentary affairs minister and secretary should be instructed to convene a meeting on April 16.

It also petitioned to prevent the Deputy Speaker from exercising the powers of the Speaker of the National Assembly.
