Legendary footballer Michael Owen meets COAS


RAWALPINDI: Legendary British footballer Michael Owen met the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on Tuesday.

According to a tweet by the General Directorate of Public Relations of the Tri-Services (DG ISPR), COAS thanked the former British footballer for visiting Pakistan and promoting sports, especially football.

Speaking on the occasion the COAS said, “Sports promote peace and this initiative for developing football infrastructure and young talent in Pakistan is a welcome step”.

Earlier today, the former footballer had arrived in Islamabad for a three-day tour. As scheduled, he will brief Prime Minister Imran Khan on the roadmap for the development of football in Pakistan.

Through a partnership with Global Soccer Ventures (GSV), the ex-Liverpool international’s tour will usher in a new era of football in the country.

Michael will also meet with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Usman Dal to discuss GSV’s football reform plan for Pakistan.

Additionally, British football legend Michael Owen will hold a press conference at NED University on January 26 to officially lay the groundwork for Pakistan’s first football city.

It is pertinent to mention here that Michael stated earlier that, “I am really excited to be at the helm of Pakistan’s largest football transformation program and delighted to be discharged with the responsibility to take football to a whole new level in Pakistan”.

“There is not much to say when England s pride and joy takes the helm of efforts to revive football in Pakistan,” Zabe Khan, CEO of GSV said.

He added, “Michael has been a devoted servant to Liverpool, and his devotion and loyalty to Pakistan s football success appear unwavering”.

“It is a great honour for Pakistan to welcome Michael Owen to a country which needs a professional direction with football. All I can say is exciting times with football lie ahead,” stated Yasir Mahmood, Group Chairman of GSV.
