Lahore: The capital of Punjab has been declared the most polluted city in the world.
According to IQAir, the technology company that operates the AirVisual monitoring platform, Lahore’s air quality ranks 269, which is close to the dangerous level of 300.
According to detailed information, Kot Lakhpat has the worst air quality, with an AQI of 408, followed by Gulberg 385, Model Town 356, Eden Cottages 289 and Anar Kali with 276.
Residents suffocating in the pungent smoke begged officials to take action. In recent years, Pakistan’s air pollution has worsened, with a mixture of low-grade diesel smog, seasonal crop burning smog and colder winter temperatures converging into a stagnant cloud of smog.
Lahore is a prosperous city in Punjab Province close to the Indian border with a population of over 11 million. It has always been one of the most polluted cities in the world.
In recent years, residents have built their own air purifiers and filed lawsuits against government officials in order to clean the air-but the authorities have been slow to blame India for the smog or claim that these figures are exaggerated.
