The counting of votes for local government elections in 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province was conducted after voting ended at 5 pm. There were many violent incidents that day.
Tensions in different parts of the province have increased. In a series of attacks, including suicide bombings and shootings, at least four people were killed and several others were injured. There are also reports of rocket launches.
Polling in the 17 districts today, including Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshehra, Mardan, and Peshawar, marked the first phase of the local body polls, with the next phase to take place at a later date.
Strict security arrangements have been made, with a total of 79,479 police and other law enforcement agencies’ personnel deployed in the districts where balloting took place.
Even so, law and order were disrupted, and local government elections in the province began to be disrupted by violence.
