Karachi blast: People trapped under the rubble, rescue operation underway

Fifteen people were killed and multiple injured after a bank building near the Paracha Chowk in Karachi’s Shershah collapsed following an explosion Saturday afternoon.

Rescuers, rangers and police have arrived at the scene. The injured were transferred to the Karachi Burns Department and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center.

However, the authorities stated that several people were still trapped under the rubble. Efforts are being made to rescue them. Staff from the Chipa Foundation and EDHI are assisting in the rescue operation.

Sindh Health Minister Azra Fazal Pechuho confirmed at least 14 deaths. She said 12 bodies had been moved to hospital and two were on the way.

Police Surgeon Karachi Dr Qarar Abbasi later told Samaa Digital the death toll had increased to 15. He said bodies of thirteen victims were brought CHK while two bodies were moved to the hospital from the spot.

Sabir Memon, in charge of the trauma center, said that the injured people have sustained third-degree burns. They are being treated at the CHK Burns Unit.

Memon said four people were in critical condition.
