IHC orders security arrangements for Imran's appearance in court today

IHC rejects PTI plea against phased acceptance of MNA resignations

By

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday rejected a petition by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) against the staged acceptance of the resignation submitted by members of its National Assembly.

The IHC declared it illegal to accept the resignation of then-deputy speaker Qasim Suri. The court also rejected a request by PTI attorneys to form a larger bench on the issue.

Earlier, the PTI challenged its lawmakers’ acceptance of resignation in the IHC “piecemeal” and demanded that all 123 MNAs be taken off notice together and their seats declared vacant.

It is worth mentioning that after the no-confidence vote against Imran Khan passed, his party, the MNA, resigned en masse in April.
