Hamza Shahbaz condemns hike in electricity prices


Lahore: Leader of the opposition in Provincial Assembly of the Punjab Hamza Shahbaz on Tuesday condemned the hike in electricity prices and said that the government is charging an excessive amount of Rs30 billion from public.

In his speech at a meeting of the Punjab Parliament today, Hamza mentioned that the government is raising electricity prices by 2.52 rupees per unit in the name of fuel adjustments.

In addition, he stated that with this growth, the public will have to bear an excessive expenditure of 30 billion rupees. He added that the government has increased the electricity price by 52%, and a few days ago the government has increased the electricity price by 1.68 rupees.

He said that due to the increase in basic tariffs, it is expected that more than 135 billion rupees will be charged to the public. He said that Prime Minister (PM) Imran stated that inflation will fall in the next six months, and according to his policies, inflation does not seem to fall.

In addition, he said that even after the increase in electricity prices, there is still a debt of 23,000 billion rupees indicating the government’s incompetence.
