LONDON: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday said that economic reforms are government’s top priority and elections will be held after economic situation of the country improves.
Speaking to media sources, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif said he would bring Nawaz Sharif back the next day if it was under his control, But the decision on his return will be made by the party leadership.
He further said that Imran Khan’s anti-American rhetoric was worthless and that Arif Alvi, Omar Sarfaraz Chema and Qasim Suri violated the country’s constitution.
The minister said he was a political worker and did not believe in arresting opponents.
We will not act like Imran Khan under any circumstances and now everything will be as per law and constitution, he added.
It merits mention that during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, it was agreed that there is no possibility of early elections in the country and general elections will be held only after the completion of electoral reforms.
It was also agreed that all parties related to the economic issues would be taken into confidence.
Nawaz Sharif directed to formulate a strategy to minimize the burden on the people while asked the PML-N leaders to make preparations for the general elections.
According to PML-N sources, the former prime minister stressed that elections and constitutional reforms should be done as soon as possible, and that the corruption of Imran Khan and other PTI members was exposed with evidence.
