Robert Downey Jr. remembers that his late father was a “true maverick film producer” and “always maintained a very optimistic attitude.”
Jr. just greeted Sr. and said that his thoughts and prayers were with his stepmother.
Robert Downey Sr.—his work includes filmmaking, directing, writing, acting and his father Robert Downey Jr.—has passed away at the age of 85.
According to his wife in an interview with the New York Daily News, he died in his sleep at his home in New York City on Wednesday after battling Parkinson’s disease.
Downey Sr. started his career as directing and writing smaller projects in the 1960s, and then switched to big-budget movies in the 1970s with “Greaser’s Palace”. He also appeared in movies such as “Buji Night” and “Mulan”.
Sr. and actress Elsie Ann Ford had two children-Allyson and Downey Jr.-but the couple divorced in 1975. He was married twice…Laura Ernst, who died in 1994, four years later he married Rosemary Rogers, and he stayed with him until his death.
In 2005, Sr.’s latest movie “Rittenhouse Square” tells the daily events in Philadelphia parks.
Robert Downey Jr. has yet to comment publicly on his father’s death.
