Fawad urges political parties to unite for constitutional amendment

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain has urged the political parties to put their differences behind and unite for a constitutional amendment regarding appointment of new judges in Supreme Court.

He noted in a Monday tweet that five Supreme Court justices will retire this year, a major achievement if parliament passes constitutional amendments to make Supreme Court appointments transparent and independent.

The information minister has praised outgoing Pakistani chief justice Gulzar Ahmed for his historic stance on minority places of worship, saying it adds to his popularity.

Fawad Chaudhary said the Indian judiciary appeared helpless at the hands of extremists. However, our judges, like Justice Gulzar Ahmed, sided with minorities and pronounced judgments independently.
