ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has fined Federal Railways Minister Azam Khan Swati Rs 50,000 for his conduct in the second phase of Local Government (LG) polls for Mansela City Council candidates. political campaign .

The ECP has instructed the minister to file the notification received by March 17, citing a breach of the commission’s code of conduct.

The fine was imposed by District Election Commissioner Hayatullah Jan Marwat. In the event of repeated violations, the case will be referred to the ECP for further action.

Last week, the ECP had sent a notice to Swati and instructed him to explain his position at the office.

According to the notice, “the minister threatened voters with refusing funding if they did not vote for Mansela City Council candidate Kamal Salim.”

The notice also mentions that “no public official and elected member shall use state resources to run for any candidate”.
