Karachi: The International Center for Chemistry and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) of Karachi University revealed on Thursday that 65 cases of the Delta coronavirus have been detected in metropolises.
According to ICCBS Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, of the 2,062 samples tested in the institution’s laboratory in the past 24 hours, 163 were positive for COVID-19, of which 65 had the Delta variant.
On Tuesday, the Sindh Ministry of Health confirmed the detection of 35 cases of the Delta variant of the coronavirus in Karachi.
According to a statement issued in this regard, from June to date, 35 verified cases of Delta variants have been found in selected COVID-19 positive samples. The statement said that people carrying this variant showed extreme symptoms of the virus.
Considering the highly contagious nature of this variant, the Health Department of Sindh recommends that everyone restrict their activities unless absolutely necessary. The provincial government also urged the masses to strictly abide by the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the coronavirus to curb the spread of the virus.
