Comic-Con cancelled due to coronavirus and plans to return in 2021

Los Angeles: This year’s San Diego Comic Con was canceled due to restrictions at major coronavirus gatherings. Organizers said they plan to host another music festival in July 2021.

The annual conference will take place in and around the San Diego Convention Center from July 23 to July 26. California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Tuesday that he is not optimistic about the return of “mass parties” such as sporting events, concerts and rallies in 2020.

“Continuous monitoring of health advisories and recent statements by the Governor of California have made it clear that it would not be safe to move forward with plans for this year,” organizers said in a statement Friday.

Every year, Comic-Con draws more than 135,000 people (usually dressed in fancy clothes) to the Gaslamp District to participate in the comic strip convention to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The long queues and crowded rooms make it difficult to solve social alienation in the infamous gathering. It’s not uncommon for tens of thousands of people to gather in a room for group discussions, and showrooms are often packed with people reading goods carefully.

Individuals who purchase the 2020 badge can choose to either refund their badge or transfer it to the 2021 Convention. Those who have booked the hotel will also receive a refund.

The conference center is also currently being used as a temporary shelter for the homeless to combat the spread of the virus.

In March this year, Comic-Con organizers postponed their smaller event, WonderCon, in Anaheim, California, which was originally scheduled for mid-April. The version of the event has been changed online.

However, the organizers of Comic-Con are slowly making official decisions about the biggest event, which is a big money-making event for restaurants and hotels in San Diego, and a major promotion station for Hollywood TV and movies. This activity is estimated to generate more than $ 147 million in revenue annually for the local economy.
