Karachi: General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Army Chief of Staff (COAS), called Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Tuesday to discuss the Karachi incident.

According to PPP Twitter’s handle, the PPP chairman expressed his gratitude to COAS during the phone call for timely detection of the Karachi incident and promised to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident.

Previously, General Qamar Javed Bajwa noted the incident in Karachi and instructed the Karachi Force Commander Lt. Kara Lt. General Humayun Aziz to investigate the incident.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS directed the Corps Commander Karachi to investigate the incident and determine the facts and report back as soon as possible.

At the same time, the PPP chairman said at a press conference in Karachi on Tuesday that he was ashamed of the actions of Pakistan’s Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Captain Mohamed Safdar.

He said that everything that happened to Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar (r) was extremely shameful.

The PPP Chairman stated that Sindh Province Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered an investigation into the incident, adding that yesterday’s incident had crossed the red line.

He demanded to know the identities of “the two people who went inside the IG’s house” and where they allegedly took him.

Bilawal said that he wanted the Sindh Police “to function independently”. “We don’t want political interference in our police but that also doesn t mean we will tolerate interference from anywhere else,” he said.
