Christchurch mosque shooter will not speak at sentencing: court

By

Christchurch: Court officials said Wednesday that New Zealand mosque shooter Brenton Tarrant denied the right to speak on his verdict on the murder of 51 Muslims last year.

Officials told reporters that Tarrant-who fired his legal team earlier this year-chose not to speak to the court in person, but a lawyer appointed by the court will give a brief statement on his behalf on Thursday.

It is expected that the 29-year-old Australian white supremacist will become the first person in New Zealand to be imprisoned for life without the possibility of parole.
